Hello everyone! After a long break, I'm excited to share our corpus-based teaching material about adverbs of frequency. Same as before, I worked with my friend Hasan to prepare this material and we preferred to use CorpusMate in this material.
Our objective in using corpus-based material was to improve students' knowledge of adverbs of frequency. By studying the material we prepared, they will be able to:
describe the frequency of actions,
use the adverbs of frequency in real life situations,
express routines, habits, and frequencies fluently.
learn how to use adverbs of frequency effectively in different types of written and spoken discourse
explore language patterns independently using CorpusMate.
Our target audience is preparation class students. Our aim is integrating these adverbs into spoken and written communication and teaching students how to use them in real life situations.
We used an online corpora(CorpusMate) dataset to gather authentic examples so we showed contemporary language usage examples to our students. By showing them real-world language patterns, we aimed to make the learning experience more engaging.
However, potential challenges may exist in a real classroom. Students can struggle with the transition from textbook examples to authentic language use because they usually see textbook examples rather than authentic ones. Additionally, the need for technology access in a classroom is a big obstacle because in many schools, mobile phone usage is forbidden.
In conclusion, our corpus-based teaching material on adverbs of frequency is useful and engaging. The corpus usage adds authenticity to language teaching and teaches students language skills crucial for real-world communication. While challenges may appear, it is useful in general.
